We will soon be starting a new unit on Light, Shadows and how we see things.
Below are some useful games and websites to try: http://www.childrensuniversity.manchester.ac.uk/interactives/science/brainandsenses/eye/ http://www.childrensuniversity.manchester.ac.uk/interactives/science/earthandbeyond/shadows/ This week in literacy we will be writing a report on life under the sea.
We will need to think carefully about the features we need to include in report writing and the order that we will set out our page(s) Use this link to improve your knowledge on report writing: http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2/english/writing/reports/read/1/ Alternatively, you may prefer to play a game to help improve your knowledge of the genre: http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2/english/writing/reports/play/ In Big Writing this week we will be writing a report on 'Life under the sea'. Will we need to prepare by collecting information that can be used in our writing. Books and the internet are a good place to start. Here is a website that may give you some ideas: http://www.wildengland.com/wild-animals/sea-creatures Next week we will be sorting shapes based on their properties.
We will be looking at the different types of triangles; equilateral, isosceles, scalene and right angle. We will be looking at the properties of rectangles and other quadrilaterals (four sided shapes). As well as this we will be plotting shapes using co-ordinates. Here is some useful information to prepare you for our lessons next week: Triangles: http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2/maths/shape_space/2d_shapes/read/2/ Quadrilaterals: http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2/maths/shape_space/2d_shapes/read/3/ Co-ordinates: http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2/maths/shape_space/grids/read/3/ Here are some games to help improve your numeracy skills: 2D Shapes (including triangles and quadrilaterals): http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2/maths/shape_space/2d_shapes/play/ Co-ordinates: http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2/maths/shape_space/grids/play/ Today we were concentrating on our sentences, making sure that the verb and subject agreed.
The game we played was very popular and requested to be added to the blog. So here it is (we played game 2). http://www.bbc.co.uk/skillswise/game/en30stru-game-verb-subject-treasure-hunt This week in literacy we will be deciding whether we should stay on Bryher or leave!
A lot has gone wrong for the inhabitants of the island recently, reaching the point where many think the best option is simply to go! Our aim this week is to present an argument giving reasons to stay on the island and try to make things better. Or on the other hand, we may choose to present our thoughts on why everyone should leave Try these activities to help get you in the right frame of mind. http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2/english/writing/argument/play/popup.shtml Read about the features of persuasive writing and what we should be including in our own work here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2/english/writing/argument/read/4/ This week in Numeracy, we are going to be representing data in a variety of forms. We are going to be collecting our own data and representing it in a bar graph with a suitable scale and appropriate titles and labels. We will be investigating how changing the scale of the y-axis can change the appearance of the graph. In addition, we will be using graphs and frequency charts to help present the answer to mathematical questions. As part of this we will also be investigating the mode, range, mean and median of data. To help you prepare or brush up on your skills here are some games. Enjoy! http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2/maths/data/frequency_diagrams/play/popup.shtml http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2/maths/data/mode_median_mean_range/play/popup.shtml In Literacy today, we learned about homophones.
Homophones are words that sound the same but have different spellings and different meanings. Can you give me any examples of homophones in your own sentences? Remember to try to use openers and connectives as well. Here is a game to get you thinking: http://www.bbc.co.uk/skillswise/game/en21watc-game-paris-word There are a lot of us on Level 4 CLIC sheets (or almost ready to move onto them). Tamzin has requested a little more guidance with factors, therefore why not try this game to help you understand them a little more. Enjoy!
Feel free to comment if you have played and enjoyed the game. Edit: The game didnt seem to be working on the blog so here is the link to it instead. http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2/maths/number/factors_multiples/play/ |
